Modern Motif - Butterflies & Moths

It’s spring and beautiful butterflies and moths are abundant. Although butterflies and moths are often represented in a juvenile way, here we have found a collection of butterfly and moth motifs that are decidedly grown-up and graphic!

Adamsleigh Showhouse: His Dressing Room

For His Dressing Room in the 2013 Adamsleigh Showhouse (sponsored by Traditional Home Magazine), we created this custom “architectural toile” wallpaper using the home’s original plans from 1929. We loved working with Lisa Mende and Traci Zeller, the interior designers who created the room! Our wallpaper design is shown closeup in an earlier post.

Recent Project: Showcase House

image

We recently had the fabulous opportunity to work with Lisa Mende and Traci Zeller on a room for the Adamsleigh Showcase House in North Carolina. For the men’s dressing room in this historic house, we created a toile wallpaper using the home’s original architectural drawings from 1929. We went through several revisions with Lisa and Traci, and collaboratively we came up with this modern take on a toile: close overlapping facades. By keeping the background white and using a charcoal/graphite linecolor, we achieved a light, graphic and modern feel with historic drawings.

Because the original owner of the home was also a great textile manufacturer, producing hundreds of black socks daily, we developed a companion design featuring — what else?— black socks!

We love the way these designs are fun and modern, but tie in with the home’s history. We had a great time working with Lisa and Traci, who made the project super fun. If you are in the Greensboro area, be sure to stop by the home…. it is sure to be filled with all kinds of design treasure!

Read more about the entire room design on Lisa’s blog.

Obsessed…

…with this wrought iron and brass screen by French designer and blacksmith Edgar-William Brandt after seeing it in this month’s Elle Decor magazine. It was Brandt’s most sought-after piece from the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris and sold for nearly $2.5 million in a Christie’s auction in 2006. Spectacular design!

Lisa and Traci have been such fun to work with, and we can’t wait to show you the completed space! In the meantime check out this lovely rendering of the room by Patricia Van Essche of PVE Design.

Whimsical Elephant Print

When I was trying to keep up with/figure out a “Twitter Chat” preview of High Point Market I saw this pillow by Madcap Cottage. I bailed on the chat, but seeing the pillow was worth it!
